Here in the U.S. rosé is often associated with gals’ night, and all things pink. But did you know that rosé was invented by winemakers in Southern France, with its hot summers, to behave more like a red wine but one which you could drink chilled?
I have heard more than a few American men groan at the idea of drinking a rosé. Why? It must be because it’s usually pink in color. In Europe, rosé isn’t “girly,” it’s a normal wine that is actually meant to behave more like a red. It is pink only because the red wine grape skins are only allowed to soak in the wine for a few hours (versus days or week) thus having less time to impart their typical darker hues. beautiful table wine
